WASHINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Two bridges for the Interstate 69 extension are being named for Medal of Honor recipients from southwestern Indiana.

The bridge for northbound I-69 over the East Fork of White River will carry the name of Civil War Army Pvt. Richard Taylor, while the southbound bridge honors Army Lt. Col. Don Carlos Faith Jr., who died during the Korean War.

Bobbie Faith Broyles tells the Washington Times-Herald that the naming of the bridges for her father and Taylor will give people an opportunity to remember the soldiers.

Taylor and Faith were both born in Washington, Ind. Taylor was honored for heroism during an 1864 battle at Cedar Creek, Va. Faith was honored posthumously for actions during Korean War combat in which he was killed in 1950.
