INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - INDOT is rewarding nearly 75 employees with bonuses for their quick response to the tanker explosion at the I-465/I-69 interchange.

On October 22, a propane trailer exploded under the overpass after it became separated from the truck pulling it. The huge plume of smoke from the explosion burned billboards and even the top of an INDOT communications tower as a massive fireball was fed by as much as 1,000 pounds of liquid propane.

The bonuses for maintenance workers, bridge inspectors and construction supervisors range from $200 to $500.

INDOT said its employees logged more than 1,400 hours inspecting and repairing the bridge over the I-69 ramp so it could safely re-open to traffic within four days.
