MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) - State police say a convicted killer and a convicted rapist
remain at large two days after escaping from the Indiana State
Prison.
Authorities believed one of the escapees, 46-year-old Mark
Booher of New Castle was in the nearby southwestern Michigan town
of Grand Beach, Mich., on Monday.
That is where a third inmate who escaped, 48-year-old Charles Smith was caught near the vacation home of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley by an officer on the mayor's security detail.
Hours of searching did not find Booher, convicted in 1999 of an Indianapolis murder. Also still at large is 45-year-old Lance Battreal, a convicted rapist from Rockport.
Authorities believe the three inmates escaped Sunday from the maximum-security prison in Michigan City through underground tunnels and pipe chases.
