SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Anti-abortion activists are planning to open a prayer chapel next door to a health clinic in South Bend where abortions are performed.
Organizers are working to raise $250,000 to buy and renovate an existing building neighboring the Women's Pavilion clinic.
Abortion opponents already frequently hold protests and prayer gatherings outside the clinic. South Bend 40 Days for Life organizer Shawn Sullivan tells WSBT-TV that he believes the new chapel will maximize those prayer efforts.
Women's Pavilion administrator Pearl Lloyd says she worries having the chapel next door will make patients uncomfortable and that the clinic does nothing illegal.
Chapel organizers say they hope to have it open in November.
