INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indiana Attorney General petitioned to suspend the license of an Indiana psychologist . The man now admits he bought his Ph.D. online.
Since January, the man patients knew as Dr. David Mowry has been working as a psychologist at an assisted living facility, HCR Manorcare in Avon. State licensing board leaders believe he also worked in at least two other Indiana communities.
But Mowry now admits he's not a psychologist at all. He just plays one at work.
"It was on blue transcript paper, it had an official seal. It had a signature of the registrar," said Jeanette Roberts, Director of the Indiana State Psychology Licensing Board.
The college transcripts looked real, but they weren't. Mowry used the fake college transcripts to get an Indiana license to practice psychology. But that's not all.
When Mowry applied for the license, he submitted a letter from his employer, Dr. Jill McNeil at South Central Indiana Psychological Services claiming he'd been treating patients there since 2007.
24-Hour News 8 tried calling Dr. McNeil at the number in Clarksville, Indiana listed on her letterhead. That number was not in service.
A Google search of South Central Psychological Services LLC rendered a Web site. The site lists the facility's address in Jeffersonville, Indiana and lists a phone number. That number was also out of service.
That led us to question whether South Central Indiana Psychological LLC actually exists.
Any limited liability company has to register with the Indiana secretary of state's office in order to operate in the state. 24-Hour News 8 contacted the secretary of state's office to see if the company is registered.
"Checking what we understand from you to be the formal name of the company and we checked initials. We checked shortened versions of those names and we couldn't find any companies in our database by those names," said Jim Gavin, spokesman for the Secretary of State.
Did David Mowry create a fake job history by creating a fraudulent psychological company complete with a Web site? Those are questions the attorney general may soon answer.
24-Hour News 8 questioned the spokesman for the state attorney general. She told us little, saying only that the attorney general is indeed investigating and then will submit a formal complaint to the board if the investigation indicates it's warranted.
