Auto parts plant to close

KENDALLVILLE,Ind. - Johnson Controls Interior Manufacturing says it will close its Kendallville auto parts plant on August 31st, costing about 170 workers their jobs.

The News-Sun and The Journal Gazette report company officials told employees about the closing Friday morning.

The plant makes plastic injection-molded interior parts for the automotive industry, but a company spokeswoman says there's not enough business to keep it running.

Mayor Suzanne Handshoe says the closing will be "a big blow to Kendallville," a city of about 9,800 residents about 25 miles northwest of Fort Wayne.

Arden Companies, which makes outdoor furniture cushions, announced last month it planned to close its Kendallville plant, idling about 50 workers. Arden's plant is across the street from Johnson Controls'.
