FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A Fort Wayne doctor's medical license has been placed on indefinite probation after he was charged with leading police on a high-speed chase while on illegal drugs.
As part of a settlement with the Indiana attorney general's office, Dr. Charles J. Whalen Jr. also isn't allowed to prescribe controlled substances without permission from the state medical licensing board and must pay a $500 fine. The Journal Gazette reports ( http://bit.ly/KxnaWX ) that Whalen was released this month from an addiction center in Florida.
The board on Thursday lifted Whalen's emergency suspension.
Whalen was charged in January with leading police on a chase along Interstate 69. Police say a blood test detected marijuana, methamphetamine and amphetamine.
He pleaded guilty and entered a program in which most of the charges will be dismissed.
