AUSTIN, Ind. (WLKY) - Deputies in southern Indiana believe they have discovered the body of a man who has been missing for the past three years, 24-Hour News 8 news partner WLKY-TV reports .
The Scott County Sheriff's Department found the body of a man at a home in the 500 block of West Main Street in Austin on Tuesday night. While the body has not yet been positively identified, they're fairly confident that it is Paul Graupe, who went missing on Thanksgiving Day in 2009.
"I can tell you the body was found intact and had been there for quite some time. So we think we will be able to identify it fairly quickly, but that's going to be up to the medical examiner," said Sheriff Dan McClain.
Police won't say exactly where the body was found, but neighbors said they saw deputies tearing up the floorboards in a small building behind the main house on the property.
"We notified the family because they've endured a lot over the last three years, and we suspect that this will probably turn out to be Paul," McClain said.
The sheriff said his department got a tip on the case Monday afternoon and got a search warrant for the property.
"I got a call that said they had found a body here. This is where my brother was last seen three years ago, and that's all I know," Graupe's brother, Hugh Pasley, said.
Deputies have already arrested a man who lives on the property, 39-year-old Robert Riley Jr.
He's only been charged with nonsupport thus far, and the sheriff said he and others are still being questioned and more charges are likely.
