Bus drivers' suit to be dismissed

PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled that a lawsuit filed by a group of school bus drivers against a southwestern Indiana school district should be dismissed.

Fourteen Princeton-area bus drivers had sued the North Gibson School Corp., arguing that the district violated anti-trust statutes and state law governing the bidding process in their contract negotiations.

District attorney Ian Stewart sought a dismissal of the civil case last fall, but a Gibson County judge rejected that and ordered mediation.

The Princeton Daily Clarion reports the appellate court ruled this week that the bus drivers cannot sue the district because it is "an improper defendant" and because the drivers could not recover any damages from the district.

The appellate court's order directs the trial court to dismiss the suit.
