FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A young child was killed in a crash Friday afternoon in northwestern Allen County that involved four cars and a semi. Six others were taken to local hospital.

A portion of U.S. 30 at Kroemer Road was shut down around 3:30 p.m. while police investigated and cleaned up the area.

Police said four cars were stopped at a traffic light on U.S. 30. A semi behind the four cars did not slow down and hit the last car in the line of four, which caused a chain reaction.

Officials said a young girl in the first vehicle, a Pontiac minivan, was in critical condition at the scene and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Conditions of the others involved were not immediately available.

The other vehicles involved were a Mercury SUV, a Ford pickup, and a Chevy pickup. The impact of the collision caused the Chevy pickup to roll over onto its top. The driver of the semi was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw.

Westbound traffic on U.S. 30 West at Kroemer Road remained closed Friday night as the investigation continued.
