INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - This holiday season, Hoosier troops overseas will have a little bit of Christmas spirit to enjoy at camp.
The Indiana National Guards delivered 300 Christmas trees to the Dull Christmas Tree Farm in Thornton, Ind. to be sent to troops in Kuwait and Afghanistan. There will be a total of 17,000 trees across the country being shipped overseas this holiday.
This small gesture of giving to Hoosier troops brings a little reminder of home and holiday spirit. One soldier spoke with owner Tom Dull and told him of his experience receiving a tree from his farm last year while stationed overseas.
"He opened that box and the aroma coming up from that fresh green tree, he said, 'I just breathed it in and that reminded me of Christmas — that reminded me of home,'" said Dull. "And he said it was worth it all, right there."
Soldiers from the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team helped with the transporting from farms across the state. The project is being sponsored by Christmas Spirit Foundation, while FedEx provides the shipping.
