ROCHESTER, Ind. (AP) - Beer and wine sales will soon be allowed at a northern Indiana city's golf course two years after its parks board first suggested the move.
The Rochester City Council voted 4-2 on Tuesday in favor of the proposal for the Round Barn Golf Club at Mill Creek.
The Rochester Sentinel reports ( http://bit.ly/uKlS5q ) some residents told council members they didn't think the city should get involved in selling alcohol and raised concerns about drunken driving when golfers leave the course.
Golf course pro Lyle Lingenfelter says most courses have alcohol sales without significant problems. Councilman Burns Becht says he believes the Rochester course is losing out on some big tournaments by not selling beer.
