College hall gives nearly $17K to South Bend schools

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - The National Football Foundation says nearly 4,000 people visited the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend the final two days it was open, raising nearly $17,000 that it's donating to five high school football programs in the city.
The NFF says the money was raised with a reduced $2 admission and a two-for-one sale on gift shop merchandise.
The money will go to the programs at Adams, Clay, Riley and Washington high schools, which are part of the South Bend Community School Corp., and to St. Joseph High School. Each high school will receive about $3,300.
The hall in South Bend closed Dec. 30 after 17 years. Groundbreaking for the hall in Atlanta is scheduled for Monday. The facility there is scheduled to open in fall 2014.
