GARY, Ind. (AP) - Ivy Tech Community College Northwest in Gary is offering a training program for people over age 50 who are trying to transition into new careers.
The program will help participants earn degrees or certificates for jobs in health care, education and social services. The school will focus on careers such as community health workers and pharmacy technicians.
The training program is not for college credit, but it includes a 20-hour paid internship. Those who participated in the college's pilot program are currently interning at Among Friends, an adult daycare center in Illinois.
Dates for the next training program will be announced in April. The cost of training will depend on the number of students in each class.
