Dance regulations put on hold

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Terre Haute officials have delayed a vote on proposed new regulations for some dance events that promoters argued are misdirected and unnecessary.
City council members didn't vote on the proposal Thursday night after the city attorney asked for more time to review the ordinance suggested by the police chief because of concerns over gunfire and other violence at some of the dances.
The ordinance would require organizers to obtain city permits, have security guards on site and provide proof of liability insurance.
James Porter owns The Event Center and tells the Tribune-Star that he provides security guards at his events and any gunfire has been outside. Porter says his dances can attract more than 1,000 people and that police haven't helped out.
