TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A California-based pharmaceutical company has closed on its purchase of a portion of a former Pfizer drug facility near Terre Haute.
NantWorks plans to spend about $120 million on the 211-acre site in a southern Vigo County industrial park and have about 230 workers there by 2016.
Terre Haute Economic Development Corp. president Steve Witt tells the Tribune-Star (http://bit.ly/I3fWXX ) that NantWorks completed its purchase this week of the land and buildings for $1 from the county redevelopment commission. The company would have to pay $1.2 million if it doesn't follow through with the project.
NantWorks is seeking federal approval of its manufacturing process for cancer treatment drugs.
Pfizer had more than 800 workers in Terre Haute before starting to shut down its operations in 2008 after six decades.
