INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Voters lined up to cast early ballots for this year's hotly contested presidential, Senate, governor's and other races.

That opportunity ended at noon Monday at county courthouses and other locations around the state.

At the City-County Building in Indianapolis, voters stood in a line nearly a block long huddled in the November chill. The Journal Gazette also reported long lines in Fort Wayne.

But early turnout was down from the last presidential election in 2008.

The Indiana secretary of state's office reports that more than 460,000 people had voted across the state as of Friday, with the heaviest turnouts in urban Marion and Lake counties. That compares with about 516,000 who had voted by the Friday before Election Day in 2008.

All voters must have a valid government-issued ID in hand at the poll. Anyone who still needs one can get it at any BMV location through 8 p.m. Monday night, or from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, the same hours the polls will be open.
