INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Indiana and several other states at 7:55 a.m. Thursday.

The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported a 4.2 magnitude earthquake on its Website , but later downgraded the quake to a 3.8.

The quake was centered near the very small town of West Liberty near Greentown in southeastern Howard County.
.
Just moments after the quake, dozens of phones calls flooded the WISH-TV newsroom.

“I live in Greentown and something just felt like it exploded,” said one WISH-TV viewer.

Pat a viewer who lives in Fishers said, “The ground shook a little bit, but it only lasted a few seconds.”

24-Hour News 8 anchor Joy Dumandan reported feeling a quick rumble in the studio.

And, hundreds of WISH-TV Facebook fans posted how the quake felt and where they were when they felt it Thursday morning.

The Department of Homeland Security, INDOT, DPW, IMPD, IFD and local utility companies sent inspectors out immediately after the quake to look for damage.

Citizens Gas, United Water and IPL also checked lines to make sure they were untouched.

The Marion County Health Department also notified local hospitals and advised them to check their structures for damage. No damage has been reported.

According to the USGS this isn't the first earthquake with an epicenter in Indiana. The strongest earthquake recorded in the state was on September, 27, 1909, near the Illinois border between Vincennes and Terre Haute. Damaged chimneys, cracked walls were reported with that event.

In 2002, an earthquake was reported with an estimated magnitude 4.6 near Darmstadt, Indiana.

Most Hoosiers remember the quake in the early morning hours of April 4, 2008 . That quake registered a 5.4 magnitude and was centered in Southeastern Illinois. That quake shook homes and buildings across most of Indiana.

Back in October of 2008, Meteorologist Ken Brewer did a   Special Report called Earthquake Ready.
