NWS: Two tornadoes struck Henryville

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The tornado that struck Henryville, Ind. left a 52-mile trail of damage and destruction, the National Weather Service confirmed Saturday.

Meteorologist Joe Sullivan said the tornado reached the lower end of being an EF-4 tornado.

EF-4 tornadoes carry wind speeds of at least 166 MPH. In this case, winds were estimated to be 175 MPH.

Meteorologists say debris from Henryville was found more than 60 miles away in Kentucky.

Meanwhile, officials discouraged anyone from traveling to Henryville or Marysville to help.

"If you don't have business here please stay home," they instructed.

CLEAN UP EFFORTS

County commissioners say they will begin bringing in volunteers Monday for a grid style clean up operation. Dumpsters will be brought in for household debris. Residents are asked to leave yard debris along the curb and the county will collect it.

The town's school complex was decimated, and there will be no classes this week.
