Ex-banker gets 2 years in Indiana molest case

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A judge has sentenced an ex-Michigan bank president accused of molesting a 6-year-old girl to two years in prison, saying he violated the terms of a plea agreement that would have eventually cleared him of felony charges and kept him off Indiana's sex offender registry.

The South Bend Tribune reports that 44-year-old William C. Peterson of Granger pleaded with St. Joseph County Judge Jane Woodward Miller Friday to allow him to remain in treatment for alcoholism.

But Miller found that Peterson had violated terms of his probation by missing appointments and testing positive for alcohol.

Peterson was charged in 2008 with felony child molesting and was fired by St. Joseph, Mich.-based Edgewater Bank.

Charges would have been reduced to misdemeanor battery in 2014 under the plea agreement.
