FDA recalls more Trader Joe peanut butter

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The recall of certain types of peanut butter sold at Trader Joe’s grocery stores has been expanded.

The recall is in response to a multi-state outbreak of possible Salmonella infections. The original recall involved Trader Joe’s Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter. The affected Sunland Inc. products have a “Best-If-Used-By” date between May 1, 2013 and September 24, 2013.

Sunland Inc., the company that makes the recalled peanut butter, has expanded its recall to include about 100 products. In addition, other companies have initiated recalls on certain types of peanut butter and other products made with nuts and seeds. Some of the other companies recalling certain products include Harry and David, Newman’s Own Organics, and Whole Foods Market.

The complete updated list of recalled products can be found on the Food and Drug Administration website .

The FDA urges consumers to avoid eating the recalled products. They should either dispose of the products or return them to the store where they were purchased.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 30 people have been infected in 19 states.
