ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - Robert Rock, who was Indiana's lieutenant governor in the 1960s and later was Anderson's mayor for eight years, has died at age 85.

Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Home in Anderson says Rock died Wednesday in Florida.

Rock served in the Indiana House before he was elected as lieutenant governor with Democratic Gov. Roger Branigin in 1964. Rock was the 1968 Democratic nominee for governor, but lost to Republican Edgar Whitcomb. He was Anderson's mayor from 1972-80.

Democratic state Rep. Terri Austin of Anderson says Rock was a proud fighter for the middle class and an advocate for education.

Rock's funeral is set for Jan. 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Anderson.
