FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne's Citilink bus service has opened a new $4.4 million downtown bus transfer station with covered bus parking areas to keep riders dry in wet weather.
The new station that opened Friday also features a waiting room heated and cooled by a geothermal system, a ticket kiosk and a screen showing arrival and departure times. Officials say 80 percent of the station's cost was paid for by federal transit funds.
Citilink Board Chairman Fred Lanahan says the station's benches and the roofs over the bus parking area will be "really good for the riders." He says Citilink provided 2.2 million rides last year.
Democratic state Rep. Win Moses of Fort Wayne told the Journal Gazette the new station is "a first-class, beautiful transfer station."
