FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne say an 18-year-old city resident was kicked in the door of an apartment was fatally shot by a resident.

The Allen County Coroner's Office has identified the dead teenager as Partick Lee. City police spokesman Officer John Chambers tells The Journal Gazette that the resident said the intruder had a handgun when he burst into the first-floor apartment in a complex on the city's northeast side Thursday night.

Chambers says the resident shot the man, who then ran away for a short distance before collapsing. He died shortly after being taken to a hospital.

Chambers tells WANE-TV that the apartment resident had the legal rights to shoot the man if the person was acting in self-defense.
