FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana agency has approved funding for the proposed conversion of a 108-year-old industrial building into shops and apartments in downtown Fort Wayne.
The News-Sentinel reports the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority recently approved tax credits for the Randall Building at nearly $675,000 annually for 10 years. The structure is the largest Victorian commercial block left in Fort Wayne, and the renovation is expected to cost about $7.5 million with the city contributing $600,000 in federal funds.
Commercial space will be on the ground floor of the building, and one- and two-bedroom apartments will fill four floors above. RealAmerica Development's target tenants are people who earn less than 60 percent of the median income.
Construction is set to begin later this year.
