CLINTON, Ind. (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers has won $800,000 in federal funding for a project to widen and deepen a stream that's plagued a western Indiana city with periodic flooding since the 1930s.
Clinton Mayor Jack Gilfoy Jr. tells the Tribune-Star that the commander of the Army Corps of Engineers in Louisville, Ky., told him Tuesday that Congress had allocated $800,000 toward the $1.2 million project along Feather Creek.
He says the city about 20 miles north of Terre Haute has been struggling with flooding along the Wabash River tributary since at least 1939.
Gilfoy credits Congressman Larry Bucshon and US. Sens. Richard Lugar and Dan Coats for impressing the Army corps with the importance of the Feather Creek project.
