EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and other elected officials will open the first 67 miles of the Interstate 69 extension on Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a caravan up the highway.

The state Department of Transportation says grand opening events will be held at three sites along the completed portion of the planned Evansville-to-Indianapolis highway. That stretch runs from near Evansville at Interstate 64 to near the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.

Daniels will lead a ceremonial ride between opening events in Evansville, Washington and the Crane area.

Among the officials attending the Evansville opening will be Lt. Gov.-elect Sue Ellspermann.

The section being opened is roughly half of the planned I-69 route. The segment between Crane and Bloomington is expected to open by late 2014.
