INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It's a house that's filled with Indiana history and now it's newest tenant, Governor Pence, has moved in.
The winter weather on Saturday morning didn't stop the Pence family from moving into the governor's residence at 4650 North Meridian Street.
“Its a tremendous privilege to be able to move in here,” says Governor Mike Pence. “We just are really excited about having a place where we can be together as a family but also a place where we can welcome Hoosiers on a regular basis."
Almost three weeks after the inauguration the Pence Family packed up their family home in Columbus, Indiana and moved to a very familiar place.
The Governor remembers a meaningful moment that happened years ago at a church that can be seen from property.
“I saw through the houses the church where we met back in 1983. I went to church one Sunday morning and I saw this gorgeous brunette playing guitar up front and I followed her out the back of the church and introduced myself. I don't think we ever imagined we would be living on this block,” says Governor Pence.
While the governor and wife take the time to make the residence their own, the Governor is excited about the first quarter of the legislative session.
“I'm very grateful for the start that we've had. we've got a team from our cabinet to our senior staff that's really allowed us to hit the ground running,” says the Governor.
Karen Pence is still recovering from emergency gall bladder surgery. She says she's at 95 percent now. She was just instructed to not lift anything heavy for another week.
