GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) - Dry grass from this summer's drought fueled a fire that quickly spread through several yards in a northern Indiana neighborhood.
The fire in Goshen slightly damaged two homes and burned five yards.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Kauffman tells T he Goshen News that the cause of Thursday's fire wasn't immediately determined, but it started near the edge of a nearby street.
Kauffman says vinyl siding on two houses will need to be replaced and a vinyl fence also was damaged.
Stephen Clayton's lawn was among those that burned in the city about 20 miles southeast of South Bend. He says a lack of caution almost caused a lot of damage.
Most of Indiana's 92 counties have open burning bans in place because of the tinder-dry conditions.
