Group fundraising to finish rail trail

WINIMAC, Ind. (AP) - Organizers are looking to raise about $40,000 to finish the last section of a 21-mile hiking and biking trail between two northern Indiana communities.

The last paved portion of the Panhandle Pathway from near Logansport to Winamac was finished this summer, but it ends about a half-mile from the Winamac town limits.

Dan Dolezal of Friends of the Panhandle Pathway tells the Pharos Tribune (http://bit.ly/Vg1Ebk ) that the trail section has been graded and graveled and that the money is needed to finish paving it.

The trail follows an old railroad line that runs along U.S. 35 for much of the route between the two communities.

Dolezal says grants have paid for much of the trail's construction and that he's confident the public will contribute to completing its northern stretch.
