INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The American Heart Association is asking Hoosiers to wear red Feb. 1 to raise awareness for heart disease.

The association says more than 18,000 Hoosiers die every year from cardiovascular disease. That's more than the next four causes of death combined.

Heart Association's Indianapolis board President Dr. Arthur Coffey says more than 80 percent of heart disease is preventable. He says the association wants to educate people so they can improve their heart health by making small lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.

The association will be hosting events around the state next month to encourage people to learn more about heart disease and how they can prevent it. Hoosiers can find a list of events at http://www.heart.org .
