MADISON, Ind. (AP) - Medical personnel treated at least 75 people for heat-related illnesses at the Madison Regatta hydroplane race and other events in the southeastern Indiana city.
King's Daughters' Hospital spokesman Dave Ommen says first-aid workers treated five people in the pits of the race on the Ohio River and 10 people were treated in the emergency room for heat-related illnesses suffered at the regatta and other events over the weekend.
The Madison Courier newspaper reported Monday (http://bit.ly/NfrkEt) that emergency medical workers treated about 30 people for heat-related illnesses at the riverfront and another 40 people following a 10-kilometer walk and run.
High temperatures topped 100 degrees in Madison on Friday and Saturday and reached the 90s Sunday.
