Heating woes give students 3 days off

GARY, Ind. (AP) - Students at a northwestern Indiana school are getting their third straight day of time off due to heating problems that have left the school building too chilly for classes.

Classes were last held Tuesday at Roosevelt College and Career Academy even though the temperatures inside the Gary school were in the middle 40s.

EdisonLearning spokesman Michael Serpe tells The Times of Munster the school is undergoing repairs.

Repair crews descended on the school Wednesday, only to discover further problems because some of the building's water pipes had frozen and burst.

Gary Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt says she's searching for a new supervisor of maintenance and hopes to work with that person to develop a maintenance plan for all the Gary school buildings.
