HENRYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Henryville students had their first day of school Tuesday. It was in the same building that was decimated by an EF-4 tornado five months ago.
The work was nothing short of a miracle, Assistant Superintendant John Reed told 24-Hour News 8.
“You’re looking at $54 million worth of reconstruction, 400,000 man hours in less than five months,” Reed said.
Students, faculty and staff made it for the 7:55 a.m. start of classes and were very excited to see their friends and coworkers. For some, it was going back to the place they called “shelter” during the tornado.
The building’s reconstruction was all paid for by insurance money. The donated money will be presented to the school board for West Clark Community Schools to be allocated to their students and possibly other school districts.
