LAKE STATION, Ind. (WISH/AP) - Police say a speeding car struck and killed a construction worker on I-80/94 Tuesday morning.
State police say a crew was patching potholes in a construction zone at about 1:30 a.m. when the accident happened.
Officers say 45-year-old Christopher Jenkins of Valparaiso, Indiana went through the windshield of a 1993 Mercury Cougar.
Another worker stood in front of the car to prevent the driver from fleeing, but the driver got out of the car and ran away. State troopers and Lake Station officers have not located the driver, but found items possibly identifying him inside the car.
Jenkins was employed by Walsh Construction of Gary, Indiana.
