OTTERBEIN, Ind. (WLFI) - A fire destroys an Otterbein home early Sunday morning, and the remains of the home caught fire again Sunday afternoon.
Otterbein firefighters said the first fire started at a home on Church Street around 5:00 Sunday morning. Fire officials said when they arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.
The fire also spread to a house next door. According to firefighters, the house where the fire started is a total loss.
The owners of the home said they had only lived there for a week, and said they lost two cats in the fire. Firefighters said the house collapsed inward, making it difficult to put out all the hot spots. The hot spots, plus cool temperatures and wind, caused another fire to start Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were able to get the second fire under control. The cause of the first fire remains under investigation.
