CELESTINE, Ind. (AP) - A 21-year-old Marine killed during combat in Afghanistan has been laid to rest near his southwestern Indiana hometown.

Hundreds of mourners gathered Friday at St. Celestine Catholic Church in small town of Celestine for the funeral of Lance Cpl. Alec Terwiske. Terwiske was from Dubois about 100 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

Former high school classmate Eric Himsel told WFIE-TV that saying goodbye to his friend was "one of the hardest things I've ever had to do."

Terwiske was killed in combat Sept. 3 in Afghanistan's Helmand province. He was a reservist with a tank battalion based at Fort Knox, Ky., but in Afghanistan he was assigned to a combat engineer battalion.
