INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gov. Mitch Daniels will present Indiana's Sachem Award to former executive and civic leader Ian Rolland of Fort Wayne.
The governor presents the Sachem annually to a Hoosier who he feels has lived a lifetime of excellence and moral virtue. Previous recipients include college basketball coaching legend John Wooden, former Notre Dame president Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, and philanthropist Bill Cook.
Rolland retired as CEO of Fort Wayne-based Lincoln National Corp. in 1998. As a businessman, Rolland has created thousands of jobs, and in his private life, Rolland has been active in community issues as wide-ranging as school desegregation, historic preservation and protecting the environment.
A ceremony to honor Rolland will be held April 25 at the Statehouse.
