Ind. couple adopts late meningitis victim's dog

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - Relatives of an 89-year-old woman who was the first person to die in Indiana from a multi-state fungal meningitis outbreak say her pet dog has a new home.
An Indianapolis couple recently adopted Lucky, the poodle mix that had been the beloved pet of Pauline Burema of Cassopolis, Mich.
Burema died Oct. 10 at a relative's Bristol, Ind., home after getting a tainted back pain injection at an Elkhart clinic.
Burema's granddaughter-in-law, Ali Haskett, tells The Elkhart Truth that she and her husband had tried to care for Lucky, but their home near Union, Mich., was too noisy and hectic for him.
Haskett says the Indianapolis couple that adopted Lucky does not want to be identified. She says saying goodbye to Lucky "was dreadful but for the best."
