INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A key deadline is looming for state and local governments to apply for federal disaster aid following southern Indiana's recent deadly tornado outbreak.
State officials say Friday is the final day that local and state governments and eligible private nonprofit groups in five southeastern Indiana counties can apply for aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Eligible entities in Clark, Jefferson, Ripley, Scott and Washington counties can seek federal aid for emergency services, debris removal and repair of disaster-damaged infrastructure caused by the storms.
Officials say aid is available for damage caused by a wave of severe thunderstorms, straight-line winds and tornadoes that struck the state. The outbreak included March 2 tornadoes that killed 13 Indiana residents and devastated the Clark County town of Henryville.
