INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana is adding more than 400 acres to two existing nature preserves.

The Indiana Natural Resources Commission approved the addition of 337 acres to the Manitou Island Nature Preserve in northern Indiana's Fulton County. The area features wetlands, swamps and a natural lake. The additional land connects three existing nature preserves. There are now 740 acres of contiguous wetlands that protect the southern end of Lake Manitou.

The commission also approved an additional 70 acres for the Crooked Lake Nature Preserve in northeastern Indiana's Whitley County. The site contains forest areas and a pond. The preserve now covers 215 acres on the north side of Crooked Lake.
