INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman is spreading holiday cheer to Indiana's military men and women by mailing 29,000 greeting cards to them.
Skillman said Monday that the sixth annual "Hoosier Cheer for Our Heroes" campaign was a success. The cards will be sent to Indiana military men and women still serving overseas and many who have returned home. More than 155,000 cards have been sent since Skillman started the program.
Skillman called the many cards "heartwarming" and picked out a few she enjoyed including one handwritten card which opened with the preamble to the Constitution.
The Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives pays the cost of shipping and Indianapolis-based online card company enGreet allowed free use of its website to make cards.
