Contractor chosen for Ohio River bridge

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indiana panel has tentatively awarded a new Ohio River bridge project to a group of partners that plans to complete the project by late 2016.

The Indiana Finance Authority gave preliminary approval Friday to a proposal by WVB East End Partners, a team that includes Walsh Investors, VINCI Concessions and Bilfinger Berger. Three other firms also submitted bids.

The finance authority will meet Dec. 3 to consider final approval, and Gov. Mitch Daniel will then make a final decision on the contractor.

WVB East End Partners says it would complete the bridge between Utica, Ind., and Prospect, Ky., by October 2106 at a cost of $763 million. That's 23 percent below previous estimates.

Daniels says the lower cost would likely allow for lower tolls for motorists using the bridge.
