INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana judge who said she accidentally shot herself following an argument with her husband has been suspended without pay for 60 days.
The penalty against LaPorte Superior Court Judge Jennifer Evans Koethe was part of a disciplinary agreement with the Indiana Supreme Court, which announced the step Thursday.
The state disciplinary commission had accused Koethe of judicial misconduct, saying she interfered with a police investigation into the December 2008 shooting.
A Lake County jury acquitted Koethe of obstruction of justice, but the Supreme Court says Koethe agreed she violated judicial canons by asking a detective to discard a handwritten note.
The high court says Koethe also agreed to "therapeutic treatment."
