FOWLER, Ind. (WLFI) - Indiana State Police Sergeant Kim Riley said 73-year-old David Windler of Fowler died while working on a front end loader at 5:56 p.m. Saturday.
Riley said Windler slipped, fell and struck his head on the concrete. Riley said Windler was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Windler was working at a garage in the Fowler Subdistrict.
Crawfordsville Deputy District Commissioner Alan Plunkett released this statement: "Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to David's family and we ask everyone to include them in their thoughts and prayers. He was a wonderful employee who will be dearly missed. INDOT is cooperating with the Indiana State Police on its investigation of the incident."
INDOT spokesperson Debbie Calder said Windler worked as a mechanic for INDOT for 39 years.
