Indiana pharmacy robberies highest in U.S.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The federal government says there are far more robberies at pharmacies in Indiana than any other state.

The Drug Enforcement Agency said so far this year, 90 pharmacies have been robbed in Indiana. The next closet is Arizona with 37.

Officers with the DEA said it’s not clear why Indiana has more of these robberies. They said it is possible a group of 10 to 15 people may be behind most of the crimes.

One of the most recent robberies here happened early Monday morning, when police in Noblesville said a man held two employees at gunpoint and demanded prescription pills.

"If it is a person seeking this for their own use, it just makes you wonder what extent they are willing to go to be able to get that fix that might last them several weeks or several months,” said Lt. Bruce Barnes, Noblesville Police Department.
