INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Governor Mitch Daniels says the State of Indiana will take part in a national initiative to help veterans find work.
“These will be great employees that make their companies stronger and more productive,” Daniels said.
The Governor, along with former Steelers Coach Bill Cowher and members of the business community announced plans to join the US Chamber's "Hiring our heroes" program.
President Obama set a goal to put 20,000 veterans to work over the next five years.
The private sector has already committed to hiring 10,000 veterans this year alone.
In Indiana, nearly one in four post-9-11 veterans are without jobs. As forces continue to draw down, and budget cuts shrink the Army and Marine Corps by 100,000 troops, these numbers are in danger of growing dramatically over the next few years.
"A lot more needs to be done and Im sure will be done," Cowher said.
