INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Although Hurricane Sandy isn’t headed directly for Indiana, the storm will be felt in the Hoosier state.

Forecast 8 Meteorologist Ken Brewer says the two major impacts Indiana will see from Hurricane Sandy are strong winds and perhaps a wintry mix, especially in eastern parts of the state.

Winds will gradually increase Monday and the higher winds last through at least Tuesday night. A Wind Advisory will start in Indianapolis beginning at 5 p.m. Monday and last through 8 p.m. Tuesday night. This means that winds will reach or exceed 35 miles per hour sustained. In this case, winds could gust around 50 miles per hour.

As the core of the storm pushes closer, the shield of precipitation will get closer to Indiana as well.

“There will be a sharp cut-off because we have nice, dry air battling with the precipitation from Sandy,” Brewer said. “It still looks like mainly eastern Indiana could see a light mix of rain and snow showers. It looks like accumulating snow will most likely stay to our east in parts of Ohio.”

By late Halloween day, precipitation will move out.

Forecast 8 will continue to track how Hurricane Sandy affects the area. Check with the Weather Blog for the latest updates.
