INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Police agencies throughout Indiana will increase patrols starting Friday to cut down on traffic accidents during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

State police say troopers will be conducting high-visibility enforcement efforts including sobriety check points and saturation patrols targeting impaired drivers and unrestrained motorists. The campaign will run through Dec. 2.

About 250 police agencies throughout Indiana will be taking part in the effort.

State police say alcohol-impaired driving in Indiana was linked to 140 deaths last year, an increase over a year earlier. State police also are urging drivers to make sure they are well-rested, to avoid tailgating, and to make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt.
