INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Farm Bureau and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce have decided they won't campaign this fall against the referendum on putting property tax caps into the state constitution.

The two groups urged legislators to vote against the constitutional amendment that passed the General Assembly in January. It must be approved by voters in the November election to take effect.

Both groups oppose the caps because they think it's unfair to treat commercial and residential property differently.

But the Farm Bureau's Bob Kraft tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., that it put up its best fight in the Legislature and fell short.

Smaller groups such as the Indiana Urban Schools Association plan to continue fighting the amendment, relying on public meetings and low-cost advertising.
